Keen Halloween Regretfully Ends

Keen Halloween was a superb experiment; a community of Halloween loving folks gathered together, shared knowledge and art, and made a little Halloween festival happen… TWICE!

I’m proud of what we accomplished.

I pushed myself to do things that I knew that I wasn’t good at, met all kinds of new people, and pitched my dream idea to friends, volunteers, exhibitors, and attendees. I put everything that I could into it.

And that’s the problem.

All the time and energy that Keen Halloween demands – is more than I can currently give. I didn’t have time draw or create for 1/3 of the year, which wasn’t so great for my mental health. Our core Steam Crow business continues to grow, and demands every ounce of our attention, and I was feeling more and more split for my time.

In the end, something had to give, and that was Keen Halloween. So, instead of being sad or focusing on it’s end, I’d like to focus on the fantastic folks who helped make it happen: YOU!

For you who attended, volunteered your time, and exhibited at Keen, a HUGE thank you! You guys were terrific to take a risk on us, and help make the show something special.

Why do you love Halloween? I love Halloween and always have.  It was definitely a family affair.  I trick or treated until I was 15.  I now dress up my dogs and give out candy.  I would love to live in Halloween Town.  The one thing that I’m afraid of: clowns Read more »

The ABC of Halloween

What is a Tiki Machine? (Sounds scary!) When my partner, Nate Funaro and I were trying to decide on what to call our little company, Nate wanted something Tiki-related and I love Robots so the fun compromise ended up being Tiki Machine. Which we both absolutely love! It says here that Tiki Machine is Read more »

Why do you love Halloween? I love creepy stuff, monsters, ghost stories, horror movies, haunted houses, decorations, autumn weather, guilt-free candy munching . . . and I love being scared! Why do you love Halloween? There is just something wonderfully creative about a world where once a year the walls of reality pull back and a macabre fantasy flows through the night. Sure there have been many eras in modern society when the “adults” capitalize on the holiday and attempt Read more »

Why do you love Halloween? There is something special about things you can see in the dark of night.  Christmas has its twinkling lights, and Independence Day has its fireworks, but Halloween takes the magic to a whole new level.  You have glowing jack-o-lanterns on every porch, bats swooping down Read more »

The Mission Creeps are a band from Tucson, who are spooky and kind enough to perform for our 2nd Keen Halloween. Here are a few questions we decided to slide past them. James has a distinctive, spooky voice, nice and rich. Who are some of your vocal influences, James? Read more »

Why do you love Halloween? Mostly the costumes, not the stuff that comes in a package, but seeing what people come up with in their creative imagination. Also spooky decorations are fun. Who’s your Halloween Idol? That is an easy one, Lily Munster. My shop is named the Lily Read more »

Why do you love Halloween? The candy! .. Wait, uhm.. I’m an adult now, that’s not a valid answer. Halloween is, to me, one of the few holidays that actually encourages you to let yourself go and have fun, disregarding social norms. Last year, my family and I had a Read more »
